With sustainability rising up the corporate and government agenda, stakeholders are increasingly looking for scalable solutions to meet their sustainability commitments. Standards systems have proven invaluable mechanisms for delivering sustainable management of key environmental and social impacts. However, their impact on certain issues can be limited by the scale at which they operate. Farms and production units do not exist in isolation – they are part of a broader and interconnected landscape. It is well recognised that there is little ecological value derived from a well-managed and biodiverse farm, operating in a degraded landscape.
